?Renew Boston? Program Pays for Your Energy-Efficiency Home ...

If you have been trying to figure out a way to pay for that insulation you know you need to tighten up your house or those energy-efficient light bulbs or water-saving devices so that you can decrease your home energy and water bills, here is the answer.

The Renew Boston program, for which most Bostonians qualify (see income eligibility guidelines here), offers you a no-cost energy assessment as well as up to $3,500 in energy upgrades. Save energy and save money through this unique program launched by the City of Boston last year, the first program of its kind in the country.

You can sign up right now or read on for more details about how Renew Boston works for you.

This initiative prompts homeowners and apartment-dwellers, or their landlords, to make improvements that save energy and save money by paying for these upgrades with federal stimulus monies and matching funds. These improvements not only lower your energy bills, but they are also a no-hassle way to increase the value of your home and help the environment by reducing greenhouse emissions, generally believed to be the main contributor to climate change.

Boston residents living in single-family and multifamily homes with up to four units who meet household income guidelines (of between $30,000 and $156,000, depending on how many live in the household) can qualify to receive weatherizing and energy-reducing improvements. Participants are eligible for a range of services, starting with a comprehensive home-energy assessment and including air-sealing steps as well as the installation of energy-efficient light bulbs, water-saving devices, and insulation. Additional energy-efficient products may also be provided by the program, depending on the results of the home-energy assessment.

Renew Boston assists participants on a first-come, first-served basis. One goal of the program is to combine the assessment and the basic improvements into just one visit, except in cases where extensive insulation or other larger upgrades are called for. Once you sign up, you will be contacted by a representative of Next Step Living (NSL) ? the company hired by the City of Boston to perform the assessments and implement the improvements ? to determine what services you qualify for and to schedule your home-energy assessment.

In addition, you will be supporting West Roxbury Saves Energy, which will receive $50 for each referral at our link or when you mention WRSE if you call NSL.

WRSE encourages residents of West Roxbury to take advantage of this ground-breaking program that will save energy and money. There are many good reasons to do so: to lower your energy consumption, save money, and help your community and the environment. Sign up and support WRSE.
